Gazette is a feed reader for people who want to decide for themselves what they read. The paper you chose, not an endless feed.
Why we built Gazette
Every big app now decides what you see. Timelines are ranked by what keeps you scrolling, “For you” replaces “from people you follow”, and the sources you actually chose get buried under suggestions, trends and sponsored posts. We wanted the opposite: a morning paper made only of the sources we picked, in the order they were published, that ends when it ends.
So Gazette does one thing. You follow websites, YouTube channels, X accounts, subreddits, Telegram channels, Bluesky and Mastodon accounts, newsletters and Google News searches, and Gazette shows you exactly what they published, newest first. No ranking, no recommendations, no AI summaries or rewrites. When you reach the end, you are done.
It is free forever. Gazette runs on a deliberately tiny stack with no paid APIs, which is what makes that promise possible. The lights are kept on by ordinary in-feed ads and a few sponsored cards from partners we picked ourselves. A low-cost ad-free option is coming later, but the reader itself will never be paywalled.

Privacy
We built Gazette to read less, not to be read. Concretely:
- We store what the reader needs and nothing more: your sign-in identity (email, name, optional photo), the sources and folders you follow, your filter rules and custom feeds, which items you have read or starred, and your settings.
- We do not profile you. There is no ranking model, no interest graph and no reading-history-based recommendation. Read state exists only so the unread count is right on every device.
- We never sell or share your reading list. Advertisers see nothing about you. Sponsored cards are served by us and count only impressions and clicks per card, not per person.
- Analytics count usage, not you. We use Google Analytics to count page views and feature usage; it sets one first-party analytics cookie and never sees what you read. Ad personalisation stays off unless you press “Accept all” on the cookie banner.
- Your subscriptions are yours. Export them as OPML at any time from Settings, and email privacy@trygazette.com to delete your account and everything attached to it.

Where your data lives
- Database: a Postgres database hosted by Neon in the AWS
us-east-2region (Ohio, United States). Feed items, subscriptions and read state live here. - Application: Google Cloud Run in
us-central1(Iowa, United States). Feeds are fetched from here; it holds no persistent data of its own. - Sign-in: Firebase Authentication (Google). Passwords are never seen by Gazette; Google and Apple sign-in hand us only your email and name.
- On your device: a session token, your preferences and a small cache of recent items, in your browser's local storage or the app's private storage. Nothing else is written to your device.
Publisher content is fetched on your behalf and shown inside your reader. We do not republish it at public URLs and we honour takedown requests (see the DMCA page).
Crawler
Our user agent is Gazette/1.0 (+https://trygazette.com/about). We fetch feeds with conditional requests (ETag / If-Modified-Since), adapt the polling interval to how often each feed actually posts, and never fetch more than once every ten minutes per source.
