Gazette shows you what the sources you chose published, unchanged and in order. We do not write, summarise, rank or moderate publisher content. This page explains what we list in the Discover catalog, what you may add yourself, the rules for the ads that keep the reader free, and how publishers can opt out.
The Discover catalog
Discover is a curated list of public feeds to help new readers get started. We add sources by hand and look for:
- Real publishers: newsrooms, magazines, blogs, creators and organisations that produce their own material.
- A working public feed or page that we can fetch without logging in.
- No spam, no scraped-content farms, no sites that republish other people's work without permission, and no malware or deceptive sites.
Being in the catalog is not an endorsement of what a source says. A publisher can ask to be removed from the catalog at any time.
What you may add
You can follow any public feed, handle or page you are allowed to read: RSS, Atom and JSON feeds, YouTube channels, Bluesky and Mastodon accounts, subreddits, Telegram channels, public X profiles, Google News searches, Facebook pages, newsletters sent to your Gazette inbox address, and ordinary web pages, including pages you want watched for changes. You may not:
- Add private or protected accounts, or anything that needs a login to read.
- Give Gazette anyone's credentials, cookies or session tokens.
- Add sources whose terms forbid automated fetching after the publisher has told us to stop.
- Use Gazette to build or distribute a public archive of someone else's content.
Newsletter inbox addresses
Your Gazette inbox address exists so newsletters you subscribe to can land in your reader. It must not be used to sign up for spam, to receive bulk or automated mail for other purposes, or to receive mail addressed to someone else that you are not entitled to. We may rotate or close an address that is being abused.
Sponsored cards and ads
Sponsored cards are placed by us, from partners we choose, and follow these rules:
- Always labelled as sponsored, and never disguised as an item from a source you follow.
- No adult content, gambling, deceptive or misleading offers, or political micro-targeting.
- Never personalised: the same cards are shown to everyone, and nothing about what you follow or read is used to pick them.
- Counted only as impressions and clicks per card, never per person.
In-feed ads on the web are served by Google AdSense under Google's own content standards and are non-personalised unless you choose “Accept all” on the cookie banner.
Publisher opt-out
Our crawler identifies itself as Gazette/1.0 (+https://trygazette.com/about) and only fetches what a subscriber asked for. Publishers who do not want to be fetched can email dmca@trygazette.com with the URL and we will block the source and drop it from Discover. Copyright notices are handled on the DMCA page.
Enforcement
If a source or an account breaks this policy, we may disable the source, remove it from the catalog, rotate a newsletter address or suspend the account, depending on what happened. Repeated or serious abuse leads to account closure under the terms of service. We do not remove a source just because someone dislikes what it accurately reports.
