Gazette is a feed reader. It does not host public copies of anyone's work. When a user subscribes to a source, our crawler (Gazette/1.0 (+https://trygazette.com/about)) fetches that publisher's own feed or page and shows the items privately to that subscriber, with a link back to the original. Items are kept for about 30 days and are never published at public URLs. Publishers stay in control of what they publish and can ask us to stop fetching at any time.
Publisher opt-out
If you publish a feed or page and do not want Gazette to fetch it, email dmca@trygazette.com with the URL. We will block the source and remove it from the Discover catalog if it is listed there, usually within two business days. Gazette only fetches feeds and pages that a subscriber asked for, using conditional requests at adaptive intervals.
Sending a copyright notice
If you believe a source shown in Gazette infringes your copyright, send a written notice to dmca@trygazette.com containing:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
- The URL of the feed or page Gazette is fetching, and if possible the specific items.
- Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act for them.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
What we do
On receiving a valid notice we disable fetching of the source, remove it from the Discover catalog if present, remove the identified items from the reader, and notify the subscribers of that source that it was removed following a copyright complaint. We aim to act within two business days and will reply to the address you wrote from.
Counter-notice
If your source was disabled and you believe in good faith that this was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to the same address with:
- Identification of the material that was removed and the URL where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the courts of your address (or, if outside the United States, of any judicial district in which Gazette may be found) and that you will accept service from the person who sent the original notice.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
We forward counter-notices to the original complainant. If they do not tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action, we may restore the source.
Repeat infringers
We close the accounts of users who repeatedly add sources that are the subject of valid copyright notices, in line with our terms of service.
